Jammer systems create a relatively small, wideband communications jam around a vehicle or soldier as a protection from improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The primary requirements for jammer system design are:
- Maximum RF transmitted power in a broadband application
- Ability to operate in harsh conditions and survive high voltage standing wave radio (VSWR)
- Gain, efficiency and broadband performance working together to produce an effective, long-lasting electronic warfare (EW) device
The two main technologies for Jammer RF power devices are laterally diffused metal oxide semiconductor (LDMOS) and Gallium Nitride (GaN). Engineering design trade-offs between these two competing technologies can be made based on the specific jammer application.
